Easy Walk from Pefkos to Lardos

View of the sea

A simple 4.5 mile walk to the village of Lardos

This is such a simple walk and one to introduce any newcomer to Pefkos to something more of the nature of the island and its people. Lardos is a working village sited a mile or so inland with a busy square that is the hubbub of activity. The route passes by the Stafilia mountain where the ruins of Lardos castle can be seen looking out across the valley.

A Circular Walk to the Monastery of Prophet Elias

View from the Chapel

A 2 mile circular walk from Pefkos village to the Monastery of Prophet Elias

Sitting high above Pefkos is a tiny monastery of Prophet Elias. This walk provides a simple circular route to reach this 12th century chapel. There is quite a climb for the final ascent but nothing that an average fit person can achieve and the views from here are well worth the effort exerted.

Walk to the Malona Waterfall

Malona Waterfall

A 7 mile walk from Malona through the river valley to a waterfall

Although this waterfall is dry for many months of the year, the expedition is worth the effort to witness the calcification of the surrounding rocks and trees. This walk also passes the monastery of Moni Eleomonitria and provides some amazing scenery through the river valley

Kiotari to Asklipio

The track twists through the scrub

A 5.5 mile walk up into the hills behind Kiotari to the village of Asklipio

A scenic walk meanders up into the hills behind Kiotari to the sleepy little village of Asklipio with its folklore museum, enchanting church full of medieval frescos and above it all, the castle. There is a broad track throughout and navigation is easy. Return is by the road but this has some equally spectacular views that would be missed in the fleeting glimpses from a car.

Archangelos to Haraki Coast Walk

stone arch

A 7.5 mile walk along the Rhodes coast from Archangelos to Haraki

A walk of discovery along the rocky coastline to Haraki. The spectacular views along this section can only be discovered by either walking or from a boat and include the magnificent rock arch that juts out into the sea. A large section of this route needs to be navigated by following cairns and red and blue markers that are painted in the rocks.

Haraki to Kalathos

Haraki beach

A 5.5 mile walk along the Rhodes coast from Haraki to Kalathos

Although short, this is a good afternoons walk along the beach around the bay between the two villages of Haraki and Kalathos. Once out of Haraki the beach becomes deserted of people with the barren land dotted with olive trees on one side and the deep blue sea on the other. The beach is shingle and can become heavy going but for some of the distance there is a dusty track just beyond the beach which makes for easier walking. Take it easy, with stops to dip ones feet in the sea and this makes a relaxing introduction to Rhodes walking.
